In 1901 Theodore Roosevelt became President of the USA and   actor Gary Cooper was born. In Wales the population were filling in the Census forms and a mining disaster at Caerphilly claimed the lives of seventy eight colliers. More locally in Tredegar Bedwellty Park was officially opened and a committee was set up to discuss the establishment of a hospital in Tredegar. It was around this time that the gentlemen of Tredegar decided to follow in the footsteps of many local towns and form a Bowls Club. After an inaugural meeting Bedwellty Park Bowls Club was founded and this year the club will celebrate its one hundred and tenth anniversary.

In that period, the club have continued to provide facilities for anyone who would like to participate in the sport and are looking to encourage more potential bowlers to take up the sport. With the start of the 2011 season, the club is looking forward to the new season full of enthusiasm.

The club extends a warm welcome to all new or experienced bowlers of all ages, who are interested in taking up this enjoyable pastime. Whether you are a novice or experienced bowler you will enjoy the hospitality at the club, both on the green and in the clubhouse. The new season started on April 18th and continues through until mid September. To celebrate the one hundredth and tenth anniversary the club will play celebration games against the Monmouthshire President’s side and the Rhymney Sirhowy Valley President’s side.  The club will also host a county friendly, when Monmouthshire will entertain the Welsh Presidents Invitation side. In addition to these special fixture,  the club will also play a full league programme in the Monmouthshire Bowling League and the Gwent League. London Welsh will also make a visit to Tredegar and the season culminates in a tour to the Cheltenham area with four fixtures.

Lifelong friendships have started on the bowling  green, yes, there is keen rivalry and competition on the rinks, but the camaraderie and after match companionship is second to none. If you would like to become part of this fraternity whatever your age don’t wait, come along and enjoy everything the sport has to offer. Coaching is available within the club, but the one way to start enjoying it is out on the rinks.

Anyone interested is asked to contact any member or the clubhouse.
